Maeve Serby lives in the Hope Valley between Hope and Castleton. Maeve, aged 50, is married with one school-going daughter. After graduating in Business Studies and Economics from Trinity College, Dublin, she work worked in London for the Henley Centre for Forecasting (on economic and social forecasting projects) and more recently for a software company in Sheffield as a marketing director. Locally Maeve is actively involved as the organiser for Christian Aid (in the Tideswell parish where she lived until 2007) and is the sponsorship secretary for The Hope Show.
Local government is the building block of democracy. At a time when the citizens of North Africa and the Middle East are demanding en masse this very basic right - to choose who represents and governs them, we must not take democracy at any level for granted.
Representing my neighbours and my wider community and pursuing their concerns and issues would be a privilege. The Hope Valley faces a unique set of circumstances - small, active and tight-knit communities exist within each of the various villages. These communities of course swell dramatically in numbers at weekends and over the holiday season with the influx of Park visitors. Balancing the needs of both is a particular challenge for all in the Hope Valley and many of the issues locally are as a result of sometimes competing demands of visitors versus residents.
My role, if elected as a District Councillor, is to represent with integrity, accountability, objectivity and openness the agenda that local residents set for me and to do so with pride and to the best of my ability.
