Federal Spring Conference is fast approaching, and it's set to be another fantastic conference - the first where each and every member that comes will have a vote to decide the direction our party takes. It's one of the great benefits of being a Lib Dem member, and it's one of the reasons so many new members join us every year.
Conferences are always incredibly exciting and fun to be at - and the Conference season has already started across the country: I recently travelled to the Welsh Lib Dem Conference in Cardiff, a highlight of which was hearing from Kirsty Williams AM, our Welsh Leader. She is so inspiring and is now out campaigning hard for the May Assembly elections with her team of candidates (half of whom are women). Show you support for Kirsty's campaign here. On a lighter note, I also was photographed with Bob the Welsh RSPB Red Squirrel as part of their 'Vote for Bob' campaign - a wildlife campaign I am delighted to support!
The one thing that has struck me each time we come together at our conferences up and down the country is our real sense of togetherness, and York Conference will be the epitome of that with One Member One Vote coming into effect. But even more than coming together to pass policy, and more than being a wonderful social gathering of the like-minded, Conference will be a rallying cry for the crucial elections in May, followed by possibly the most important decision for the country in a generation: the EU Referendum.
Last May Nick Clegg said this: "British liberalism is more needed than ever before. We must keep fighting for it." He's right. Now more than ever, Britain needs a Liberal voice. We must be that voice, and Conference is YOUR voice in the party.
So I urge you: come to York Conference - to have your voice heard loud and clear as a Lib Dem member and to show that we're ready to fight tooth and nail to make sure Britain remains a decent, compassionate, liberal-minded nation, at the heart of Europe. Register here today!
P.S. Did you know?
There are also conferences on specific topics organised by our AOs and SAOs. Two weeks ago I travelled to Stafford to join colleagues at the Liberal Democrat Education Association conference. It was a great opportunity to catch up on current Lib Dem education views, and to remember all the fantastic things we achieved during the Coalition Government, which are now being torn apart by the Tories.
