Councillor Barrie Taylor
HIGH Peak Borough Council is to carry out a review of the short term parking restrictions in Whaley Bridge.
It follows a request by Whaley Bridge Town Council last month to increase the time shoppers can park along Market Street, Canal Street and Old Road from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.
The aim is to help encourage residents and visitors to support their local shops.
The scheme, which involves training members of the public to use radar guns to catch those breaking the limit, conducted three one-hour sessions in the village recently.
Those caught speeding are sent a written warning.
Any residents wishing to get involved can contact the Whaley Bridge Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0345 123 33 33.
Council chairman Cllr Barrie Taylor said: "I would have thought it would not be too difficult to reduce our emissions.
"It might involve extra expenditure and getting more grants, but I feel it is important that we support this campaign, especially with this important meeting coming up in Copenhagen in December."
