European Convention on Human Rights: 60th Jubilee Celebration - Organised by Amnesty International in the Matlock area on November 6th, 1-30 for 2 pm - 5 pm, Methodist Church Hall, Bank Road, Matlock (parking diagonally opposite at County Offices)
The European Convention: history and the rights it protects and The UK Human Rights Act: acceleration and deepening of protection, respectively by Scorcha MacLeod and Dr.Tom Lewis, lecturers on human rights law, Sheffield & Nottingham Trent Universities.
Parallel structured discussions led by experienced speakers from the international, national and county stages on Human Rights and: Immigration and Asylum (M. Lilley-Tams, and D. Sheehan, Paragon Law, Nottingham. Deidre successfully fought the UK Supreme Court asylum case preventing return of gay men to Cameroon and Iran, 7/2010);
Criminal Justice (M. McColgan, Howells, Sheffield and Liberty Council member; and Dr. J. Doak, Nottingham Trent U.); The Local Authority (L. Cheong, Bolsover District Council); Journalism, Activism and the Internet (Dr. S. Riley, Sheffield Hallam U.)

With the help of our excellent slate of speakers and discussion presenters we can dispel some of the mis-information that is purveyed by right wing and popular media about the Human Rights Act.
