Hawk Road and Hyde Bank Flooding Problems
Following pressure from Cllr Huggy Hawley, the Environment Agency has made a site visit to the land behind Hawk Road. There have been problems caused by water running from old mine workings.
Huggy is keeping up the pressure for a long term solution and is also involving county and borough officials in discussions.
The issues were again highlighted when the recent wet weather led to some properties being flooded and Councillors Huggy Hawley and Beth Atkins were contacted again for assistance by residents.
Hawk Road was threatened by water coming down from the hills filling up the sump.
Regrettably, Huggy's appeals for it to be pumped out were turned down by the fire service and Huggy is now considering making an official complaint as later in the day water went into Hawk Road bungalows.
On the same day as the Hawk Road flooding, there were a number of properties in the Hyde Bank area needing assistance and action was taken by the fire service
Sand bags were in short supply as the river rose and drains all over the town were unable to cope with the deluge.
