County Council wields £1M axe on local road repairs

March 8, 2011 2:34 PM

Elizabeth (Beth) AtkinsA £1Million cut in Derbyshire County Council's £16M road repairs' budget threatens a number of much-needed resurfacing and pothole elimination projects in New Mills, reports the town's County Councillor Beth Atkins.

In the past year, Beth has seen major repair work carried out on St Marys Rd, Apple Tree Road, Bate Mill Road, Hayfield Road and Market Street - but fears a slowdown in work in the next 12 months.

Beth says "I am continuing to push for repairs and improvements to take place - but it may be more difficult this year".

Beth added "I've made requests for deep potholes in Longlands Road and High Hill Road to be filled in along with several others - but when I did one of my recent "drives rounds" there seemed to be too much frost damage on so many roads that I have requested officers to do one of their detailed checks"

She concluded: "There is a long list of work to be done and less cash to pay for it - but I will keep up the pressure on County Council Officers".
