High Peak Borough Council scraps Whaley Bridge Regeneration Programme
High Peak Council first withdrew funding from Whaley Bridge Regeneration Partnership last year, and has now pulled out completely.
Councillor Kemp, Borough Executive Member wrote "the Council must withdraw from partnerships that focus on small scale local projects".
Our Partnership projects have included:
- funding for canal improvements
- helping to re-instate traditional shop fronts
- repainting street furniture in Market Street
- setting up the farmer's market
But the partnership concentrated on one big project, trying to secure a '2nd Bridge' into the Bingswood Industrial Estate. This failed due to 'misunderstandings' between the Borough and United Utilities.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Linda Leather, long term chair of the Partnership, commented "We will make sure that projects to improve our town will continue."
