High Vehicles Damage Bridge
Covert Camera
As a result of high speeds on Hayfield Road and two incidents of wagons tipping over near the Chapel Milton bridges, a camera will record speeds. Although there is a new 30 limit the aim is to assess the problem rather than to give speeding tickets.
Edith Longden reports that the damage to the reflective band round the arch of the bridge at New Smithy shows there is still a serious problem with high vehicles.
However an electronic height detector is at last being installed at Hayfield with an illuminated display to direct high vehicles to turn right through New Mills instead.
