NEW SCHOOL BID LATEST

GLOSSOP could get its third high school within the next 18 months.

That's the optimistic view of Colin Hanson-Orr who is spear-heading the campaign to use government cash to open a 'free school'.

The teacher and musician claims there is sufficient interest to set up another school, despite the town already having Glossopdale Community College and St Philip Howard High.

Speaking following a meeting of people working to get the new school off the ground, he told the Chronicle: "Glossop Free School is rapidly becoming a reality.

"There is a genuine belief that we can get a bid in by the June deadline, to contemplate a September 2012 opening."

He went on: "We had an excellent meeting of parents, teachers and education professionals.

"Another meeting is already planned to confirm the directors of the Trust that will run the bid and manage the school."

Mr Hanson-Orr said the meeting would also nominate and appoint people into various roles, including a steering committee, which would consult with local parents, primary schools, and businesses to draw up a curriculum.

People taking an active part in trying to set up the school, include a chartered accountant, solicitor, owners of local businesses and parents.

Also thought to be on board are several experienced teachers.

Mr Hanson-Orr has looked at various buildings in Glossop and Hadfield that could be turned into a school, but at this time does not want to identify them
