The morning of Tuesday October 4th may have changed the life of football fans in theUK and on the continent forever.

The European Court of Justice, which is the Supreme Court for the EU, has made a judgement today that prohibiting the import, sale or use of foreign decoder cards of TV set-top boxes is not justified under EU law.

This ruling has a great relevance to how Premier League football is aired on our televisions and how much we have to pay to watch live football.

The court's ruling will mean individuals can buy set-top box decoder cards from foreign broadcasters and will be able to watch Premier League football for the price offered, which is usually much cheaper than the price offered by Sky in theUK.

Furthermore, the average British pub, whose numbers are in great decline, currently pays a £1000 per month subscription fee to BSkyB, in comparison to paying around £800 for a whole year for an identical service of receiving Premier League games from other TV providers in the EU.

The EU's laws on the freedom to provide services throughout the EU means that the Premier League should not cost the consumer more money in the UK than in other EU countries.

Therefore individuals and pubs will be able to pay much cheaper prices to watch and show football.

Bill Newton Dunn, Liberal Democrat Euro-MP for theEast Midlands commented:

"Watching live Premier League games should not cost football fans a much higher price than that charged in other countries of the EU."

"Many of us enjoy watching top-quality football over the weekend, but until now many have had to miss-out due to the high cost of satellite TV in the UK.

"This is a clear example of where the EU benefits us all in the UK by ensuring the costs for consumers are the same across the EU. This is great news for football fans, and for the British pub."

"Let's just hope there will soon be more top teams from the East Midlands for us to watch!
