High Peak Liberal DemocratsLeading LGBT Liberal Democrat Sarah Brown has been named as one of the most influential LGBT people in the UK. She featured in the Independent on Sunday's top 100 "pink list" at number 28. Sarah, probably the only "out" trans politician holding public office in the UK at the current time, is a current member of the executive of the LGBT+ Liberal Democrats and chair of the Transgender Working Group.
She said: "I'm delighted that my work has been recognised in this way. It raises the profile of transgender people and promotes greater understanding."
"There has been some good work done since May 2010, much of which has been behind the scenes, and I do hope that this helps to highlight the need to continue to work on Trans rights within government and wider circles."
Deputy Party leader Simon Hughes also featured as the highest rated MP in the list, coming in at number 13, with Nick Clegg's chief of staff Jonny Oates coming in at number 30. Lynne Featherstone MP, the LibDem's Equalities Minister, featured as the only politician in the paper's "Non-LGBT friends" list.
