High Peak Liberal Democrats
Norman Lamb MP who was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills last week has confirmed that despite his new job he will be able to give the keynote speech at The East Midlands Liberal Democrats Regional Conference on Saturday 18th February at Abington High School, Station Road, Wigston Magna, LE18 2DU
In addition Norman, who was previously Assistant Whip & Parliamentary Private Secretary and Political Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, will conduct a Question and Answer session.
Bill Newton Dunn, Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands will host lunch and address the conference on the inside story of the problems in the Eurozone.
The conference is being hosted by Harborough Constituency party where Liberal Democrats control Oadby and Wigston Borough council with 22 Councillors out of 26. Councillor
Sharon Morris, Constituency Chair, will welcome the delegates and Councillor John Boyce, Leader of Liberal Democrat Group will explain in the afternoon how they won the election in May 2011. 
In the morning Conference will debate four Policy Motions introduced by Phil Knowles - Policy Officer:
- Development of the Blue Badge Scheme to cover temporarlity immobilised persons who are not eligible under the present scheme.
- The introduction of a "P plate" probation scheme for new drivers
- The presumption of opting in to the donation of organs unless otherwise stated by the individual
- Ethical food labelling
Before the keynote speech Regional Chair Councillor Tony Rogers will present his "Challenge for 2012"
In the afternoon there will be an opportunity for delegates to partake in a choice of five training sessions which will cover:
- Connect - How to get it & how to use it - Austin Rathe.
- Online campaign tools to help you.
- Diversity Matters by Roxana Cimpeanu - Diversity Project Coordinator, HQ.
- How to write a press release.
- Speaking to voters.
A Special General Meeting has been called in the afternoon to approve a new regional constitution which has been prepared by the working group chaired by Steve Coltman which was appointed at the Annual General Meeting in October. The 12 articles including some alternatives on which there will be a separate vote can be downloaded here.
A short session will discuss "What do we want at future conferences?" led by Tony Rogers and Regional Conference Chair Joan Garrity.
