LIBERAL Democrats from across the East Midlands will be heading to Gateshead at the end of this week for the Party's Spring Conference.

Representatives from East Midlands will set off to discuss many of the policies which Liberal Democrats have put into action as part of the Coalition Government and look at what our priorities and strategies for action should be in the coming months and years.

"One of the top policies Lib Dems have brought to the Government is the move to ensure no one pays tax on the first £10,000 they earn," said Bill Newton Dunn MEP for East Midlands region. "Last April the coalition government made our first stride towards achieving this when the personal allowance was increased by £1,000.

"Liberal Democrats are arguing that to help households through the financial squeeze, we need to move faster towards our goal of lifting millions out of paying income tax altogether.

"In that way we can ensure that people on low or middle incomes benefit from a tax cut which will help stimulate the economy and get more people back into work.

"This matter is high on the agenda and I know members are keen to push the Government even further to achieve a fairer tax system."

"I'm also delighted that a key debate at Conference this Spring will involve Europe - the current issues facing Europe, the EU's role in tackling them, and how the UK must engage with that for the good of all of us, in the East Midlands, UK and across our continent."
