High Peak Liberal DemocratsHome Secretary must take account of extradition report - Campbell
Commenting on the Home Affairs Select Committee report on the UK-US extradition treaty, former Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Menzies Campbell said:
"This carefully framed report is a significant contribution to the controversial debate about extradition of British citizens to the United States.
"Its conclusions, in so far as they relate to the standard of proof and the forum for trial are, unimpeachable.
"The Home Secretary must surely take account of these valid arguments for change."
Liberal Democrat Leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, has asked Sir Menzies Campbell QC to set up and chair a panel to examine the issue of extradition between Britain and the United States.
The panel's task will be to examine the difference between "probable cause" and "reasonable suspicion" as well as to suggest practical solutions to remedy the imbalance.
