At the special Council meeting to discuss the Core Strategy, which took place yesterday, the Conservatives on the District Council decided NOT to continue to support the policy of a Bardon By-Pass. At the meeting Cllr Wyatt put forward an amendment to the recommendations but neither of the other Parties would support my call to continue to support the Bardon Relief Road.

Cllr Wyatt commented said, "To my surprise and dismay the local Conservative District Councillor Michael Specht for the Bardon Ward did not support my amendment, and he voted against another amendment, which also mentioned the Bardon By-Pass.

The local Conservative member and his colleagues on the District Council have once again shown the utter contempt to the local residents by ignoring your concerns. The deletion of the Bardon relief road from the Core Strategy, which the local community of Bardon have been promised for over 30 years is nothing more than a outrageous kick in the teeth to the hundreds of local residents who continue to live with the daily increasing traffic movements along Bardon Road.

The only advantage to the scrapping of this vital relief road is to the developers profit margin. You may or may not know that the council planners already have an outstanding planning application, which states they are prepared to help fund the relief road from each property that they sell. This is not ideal but it is a clear commitment from the developers that they accept and agree to help contribute to the Bardon By-Pass.

I will be urging all the residents in Bardon who are furious at the decision delete the relief road from the Core Strategy to contact the Tory Councillor, Michael Specht who lives in Coleorton to justify why he voted to scrap the much needed Bardon By-Pass. I only hope the local councillor can look the people in the eyes when he tries to justify his actions, which in my opinion put the needs of the developer before the needs of the local residents."
