High Peak Liberal DemocratsMany thanks to everyone who helped in the local elections in Derby over the last few weeks. Especially to Stuart Bray, who was here virtually every day for the last few weeks. We've had people from Nottingham, Erewash, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Leicester, Hinckley - and probably more places. Thank you all for your help. It is great to know that we are part of a larger, supportive family of Lib Dems!
Cllr Naitta
We held 3 of the 6 seats that we were defending from an historic high 4 years ago (or potentially 7 - we lost a by-election for one seat last year). Last year we won only one seat in a three (or more) way election (and two seats overall). So this year is a real improvement, even though it will be recordeed a loss of 3 (or 4) seats. This included losing one sitting councillor by only 14 votes in an inner-city ward after 3 recounts.
Cllr Jones
Many thanks to all our candidates, whether fighting to hold a seat, or just being a presence on the ballot paper.
The full results are available here. Though turnouts are shown most wards have around 10,000 voters.
The wards of note are:
Blagreaves, Littleover and Mickleover, which we won.
Arboretum and Darley where we lost sitting councillors.
Derwent and Normanton where we showed we could make in-roads into the Labour vote.
Abbey where we hold one seat (and improved on last year) and Mackworth where our councillor stood down and we didn't fight.
Thanks again to everyone who helped -
