The new Community Allotment Site off Bradgate Drive in Greenhill, which was started by County Councillor Michael Wyatt has become a huge success after 25 plots have been allocated to local residents, and a further 3 plots going towards local Community groups.
The brains behind this project Michael Wyatt wanted this scheme to enable local people and local Community groups from all sections of the community to come together.
Cllr Michael Wyatt said, "I am absolutely delighted to see that this fantastic project, which I have been working on for over two years as finally taken off. I knew it would be popular but I never expected it to take off in such a big way in such a short time. We have only been open since the end of June but already we are more than 70% full. I believe this is, and will be a massive boost to the local area, and clearly shows there was a need for this project. Growing your own and taking part in a really positive community scheme like this is not only a joy but extremely satisfying."
If anyone would like an allotment they can obtain an application form for a half plot (10m by 7m) or a full plot (15m by 10m) by contacting Michael Wyatt on 07773341531. Plots are still available for Community groups who work within the local Community of Bardon and Greenhil Wardl. This is the first allotment site to be opened in North West Leics since 1974.
