Reception from Shoppers in Corby - Warm
East Midlands Policy Officer Cllr Phil Knowles took the opportunity on Friday lunch time to talk with shoppers in Corby describing the response as warm and very interesting.
'' It seemed an opportunity simply too good to miss. There was a high level of awareness about the by election and the reason for it. The stepping down of the current MP 'so soon' after the General Election clearly a source of frustration to the shoppers I spoke with.
The reaction to our candidate,
Jill Hope, was extremely positive, people I felt identified Jill's genuine commitment to the people of Corby who she hopes to represent as their MP. The key subject of discussion with the shoppers I met, of course, - Nick's apology.
One Lady in particular stood out to me. She identified herself as a Labour voter but said that she found it refreshing that a national politician, particularly a Party Leader, would be prepared to hold up their hands and say sorry, she felt it was something new and finished off by saying that she had actually 'warmed' to Nick.
This underlined to me just how important it is that we build on this momentum and take the Liberal Democrat Policies onto the doorsteps and streets of Corby. We have to get into the Constituency in numbers and give Jill, Stuart, Chris and the team all the support we can to help deliver a good result''
