1800 homes decision sees Public Ignored

The decision of the Conservative Controlled Councils Scrutiny Panel to support a decision to put 1800 homes on Airfield Farm has been described by Lib Dem Group Leader Phil Knowles as the day the Public were ignored and Localism died in Harborough.

Over a hundred protesters greeted Councillors as they arrived at the meeting with most of the protesters packing into the Council Chamber to hear the debate but the calls from Residents who addressed the meeting and a move by the Lib Dem Councillors to call on the Executive to scrap the plan for 1800 homes and replace it with a more acceptable 1000 houses simply fell by the wayside. When it came to the vote the Conservatives voted down the proposal, backed the Executives plan for 1800 homes and declined any reference back.

'' Those who protested, attended the meeting or supported the campaign to say No to the 1800 homes in any way will be left dismayed by tonight's outcome. The public will feel ignored and tonight will be seen as the night that Localism Died in Harborough. The impact on Market Harborough and the surrounding villages will be deeply worrying for the community as the infrastructure is subjected to added pressures. As for those who will move onto the new development - 1800 homes, does that mean they will be subjected to living on a building site for twenty years? Only time will tell on all of this and the public will be watching!''
