Commenting on tax avoidance as executives from Google UK, Starbucks and Amazon speak before the Public Accounts Committee, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson, Stephen Williams said:
"If big names like Starbucks, Google and Amazon want to make money in the UK then they must be made to pay their fair share of tax here too.
"It's outrageous that Starbucks had sales of nearly £400m in the UK last year and paid nothing in corporation tax.
"People are already speaking with their feet by buying elsewhere and the Coalition Government is taking a tough approach, investing heavily in clamping down on tax avoidance.
"For every £1 we spend on tackling avoidance we will get £7 back.
"Our message is clear; everyone, no matter how wealthy, must play by the rules and pay their fair share. Those who don't will not get away with."
