High Peak Liberal DemocratsStockport Council has been listed as one of the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers in the country, news welcomed by local MP Mark Hunter.
The list, compiled by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), recognises excellence in organisations which employ apprentices. Stockport Council joined prestigious companies such as Rolls Royce, BT, and Kwik-Fit to be recognised as one of the top 100 employers of apprentices nationwide.
The news follows recent research which found that 3,110 new apprentices started last year across Stockport, up 60% since the Coalition Government came to power in 2010.
Commenting, Mark said:
"I want to congratulate Stockport Council on being listed as one of the top 100 employers of apprentices in the country.
"It is extremely encouraging to see more good news on apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are vital for young people who want to start their career and vital to our economy.
"I am pleased that the Council's commitment to training our youngsters has been recognised and that young people in our area who do not wish to take the academic route have an established employer ready to give them an opportunity."
