The long awaited Harborough Hospital phase two is now in touching distance as Harborough District Council Planning Committee unanimously voted to give the scheme planning permission. At Tuesday nights meeting Cllr Phil Knowles who for over 20 years has been at the front of the campaign for a 'new hospital for a growing "Harborough" addressed the committee and urged them to back the people of Harborough and make the dream a reality, he told the committee -
'' So many times the community have seen their hopes dashed and the promised new hospital wrenched from their grasp but tonight the District Council can play a major part in securing the Hospital that can do so much to deliver the services for a growing community''
The Committee raised issues on the NHS multi million pound scheme including car parking to the hours of work but after a short debate the vote was taken and the scheme voted through unanimously.
Speaking after the meeting Cllr Phil Knowles said
'' I am delighted and very grateful to all who have supported the campaign over such a long time. The decision to grant planning approval is a major step forward for a twenty first century facility for Harborough. There must be a strong probability that contractors will be on site soon, residents will see the work begin and at long last see the scheme finally delivered. It is positive news but only when the doors are open and the facility fully operational can we say the campaign is over''
