High Peak Liberal DemocratsThe BMX track at Bruntwood Park will become a part of the nation's Olympic Legacy this summer with a £300k upgrade to competition standard, news welcomed by Cheadle MP Mark Hunter.
The track will be revamped in a major project which also includes improved facilities, new coaching sessions, a BMX Club, and bike hire with improved routes into and through the park. The facility, which is set to be complete by the summer, will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark celebrating the link to the Games. The £303,610 cost is being met by Sport England, Stockport Council and the North West Mountain Bike Centre.
Bruntwood Park already has a top-class range of facilities with an eighteen-hole "pitch and putt" golf course, two play areas, archery, and a cafe in its picturesque surroundings. The Olympic improvements are set to boost the Park's popularity in and around the Cheadle area.
Commenting, Mark said:
"I am delighted that our area will benefit in this way from last year's Olympic Games.
"I have always said that London 2012 should be for the country - not just the capital - and this investment will bring the Games closer to home.
"Young people in our area will reap the benefits from this cash boost; this is a huge boost which will benefit children and young adults especially.
"Almost everybody enjoyed last year's Olympic and Paralympic Games and this is another reminder of how well the Games were delivered."
