High Peak Liberal DemocratsStockport Council has been paid a £1 million bonus for building an extra 357 new homes in the last year it was announced today. Local MP Andrew Stunell has praised the Coalition Government's incentive scheme that rewards councils like Stockport that encourage new home developments.
Commenting, Andrew said - "It means there are 350 more families with secure roofs over their heads in our area, including 160 in low cost affordable homes, and we've seen almost 70 long term empty homes brought back into use as well."
The New Homes Bonus is paying out almost £700m across the country to councils who build new homes or bring empty homes back into use.
"We need thousands of new homes, and this scheme is really starting to make things happen. I am delighted that Stockport Council has worked so hard to get empty homes back into use. I look forward to them setting new records in 2013".
