EXTRA £600 FOR LOW & MIDDLE INCOME EARNERS
Last Saturday 9th February local Lib Dem members and councillors took to the streets across Cheadle constituency to campaign for an extra income tax cut in the forthcoming Budget.
Since coming into Government in May 2010, the Lib Dems have secured a £600 a year tax cut for all those on low and middle incomes. After changes which mean millions of low paid workers will now pay no tax at all, they are campaigning for the Government to go further, increasing the personal tax threshold allowance to £10,000.
As well as putting money back into the pockets of many local people, the move wil also provide a welcome boost to the local economy.
Commenting, local MP Mark Hunter said:
"As a Liberal Democrat in the Coalition Government I want to see a stronger economy and a fairer society.
"After a longstanding campaign by the Lib Dems, working people have had their income tax bills cut by £600 per person - £1200 for a couple - since the Coalition Government came to power.
"Thanks to this change, people earning the minimum wage will have seen their income tax bill halved since 2010 - that's got to be a good thing.
"We want to go further though, and I was pleased to get the support of many local residents as I delivered our message to homes across the area alongside other Lib Dem campaigners this weekend."
