High Peak Liberal DemocratsLast week local MP Mark Hunter paid his latest visit to the University Hospital of South Manchester (formerly Wythenshawe Hospital) to meet with staff and see their state of the art "cardiac imaging unit".
Mark met with Hospital Chair, Felicity Goode, and the two discussed how the Hospital is meeting the needs of patients whilst coping with the pressures of an ageing society. They also discussed the hard work the staff is putting in to ensure waiting times are kept to a minimum.
Afterwards, Consultant Cardiologist, Professor Simon Ray, took Mark to see firsthand the "cardiac magnetic resonance scanner", which is the flagship cardiac imaging unit in the North West and the only service of its type in Greater Manchester.
Commenting on the day, Mark said:
"It is always good to catch up with the teams at our local hospitals and it was good to see the progress which is being made at the University of South Manchester Hospital, or Wythenshawe, as most of us still call it!
With my latest meeting at Stepping Hill earlier in the week, the visit was a reminder of how lucky we are to have two top hospitals serving our local area.
Felicity Goodey is clearly doing a great job helping the Hospital in challenging times, and I was genuinely impressed by the sophisticated technology Professor Ray showed me."
