High Peak Liberal DemocratsThis week (11th-17th March 2013) is National Apprenticeships Week and local MP Mark Hunter is celebrating the 7,480 new apprenticeships created across the Stockport Borough since the Coalition Government came to power.
Last year alone there were 3,380 new apprenticeships in the area - a huge increase of 74% since Labour's last year in government. This news came in the same year that Stockport Council was listed along the likes of Rolls Royce and BT as one of the top 100 employers of apprentices nationwide.
The latest figures are a big boost for apprenticeships and young people across the Borough which comes as National Apprenticeship Week gets underway, aiming to raise awareness and celebrate the successes of the apprenticeship scheme.
Commenting, Mark said:
Apprenticeships are a brilliant way for young people to learn the skills and get the experience necessary for a successful career.
"Liberal Democrats in the Coalition Government have promoted and invested heavily in apprenticeships because they are one of the most effective ways of helping young people get jobs. Apprenticeships also allow us to build a stronger economy, with a highly-skilled and flexible workforce.
"Apprenticeships rely on employers making opportunities available. That's why I have been working with businesses in our area to offer more places for apprentices available.
"I hope that National Apprenticeship Week is another opportunity to celebrate the success of our apprentices and for businesses to see how valuable apprentices can be to them."
