High Peak Liberal DemocratsLast Friday 22nd March, local MP Mark Hunter paid his latest visit to Stockport Grammar School after being invited to take part in a Q&A session with the sixth form debating society.
After outlining his day-to-day responsibilities in Parliament and his work as a constituency MP, pupils were given the opportunity to discuss Mark's role and his party's involvement in the coalition government. Fifth Year Pupils and Sixth Formers quizzed the MP for 45 minutes on a variety of topical issues and Mr Hunter discussed a range of subjects including the Cypriot financial crisis and the recent Budget.
Last month, Mark welcomed a group of Sixth Form historians from Stockport Grammar into Parliament and met with them after their tour of the Palace of Westminster.
Commenting, Mark said:
"It was a pleasure to visit Stockport Grammar again after being invited to participate in their debating society event. I always enjoy visiting local schools and the students were well prepared with plenty of good questions for me.
"The reason I decided to get involved with politics was because of a teacher who inspired me when I was at school and I have always tried to encourage students, whatever their political opinions, to get more involved themselves.
"It is absolutely vital that future generations are well equipped to face our nation's challenges and starting to think about these issues at a young age can be no bad thing."
