High Peak Liberal DemocratsLocal MP welcomed Stockport Council's announcement to pump over £5 million into fixing Stockport's roads, pavements, street lights, drainage and more.
Over £3 million will be spent on fixing roads and pavements, half a million pounds will be spent on fixing street lights, nearly £1 million will be spent on drainage projects and over £300,000 on footpaths and bridleways in 2013-14.
Commenting, Andrew Stunell MP said -
"A severe winter and increasing traffic year by year have given our local roads a heavy pounding. This £5million programme makes a great start on putting that right. I am very pleased that despite the huge financial pressure the Council is under it has safeguarded the road and pavement repairs budget, improving safety for residents and motorists alike."
The roads and pavements included in the programme on the eastern side of the Borough will be Eyam Grove, Mount Drive, Roundcroft, The Drive, Highfield Rd, Sandown Rd, Henbury Drive, Davenport Drive, Station Rd, Whitefield Rd, Higher Bents Lane, Green Lane, Macclesfield Rd, Brookside Lane, Church Rd, Mellor.
Hartington Rd estate is included in the Street Lighting Maintenance Programme and drainage works will take place on Stockport Rd, Marple, Town Street, Dingle Hollow, Pennine Road and Dooley Lane.
Bridleways & footpaths in Marple, Mellor, Bredbury & Romiley will also receive improvement works and a Local Safety Scheme will be carried out in Greave.
