Lincolnshire Liberal Democrats Six Point Education Manifesto

April 18, 2013 11:43 AM
Originally published by East Midlands Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats have made a major contribution to education policy since 2010. As part of the Coalition Agreement, the school budget has been ring
fenced and the Pupil Premium is now in place, targeting some £2 billion per annum towards disadvantaged pupils.

Liberal Democrat councillors will:

1. Press for Lincolnshires share of the primary school rebuilding fund to be spent without delay.

2. Demand a greater degree of local control over academies. These state independent schools are here to stay but the LibDems and many people in education are not happy with the speed at which Lincolnshire County Council is shedding responsibility for its secondary schools.

3. Ensure that the Pupil Premium is spent on targeted children and not lost in the general school budget.

4. Support the extension of preschool provision, a cause championed by Nick Clegg.

5. Support a proper debate about the introduction of University Technical Colleges in Lincolnshire. These are experimental colleges providing high quality vocational and technical education for 14 to 19 year olds.

6. Welcome a sensible reform of GCSE exams which aims to promote high standards and prevent grade inflation. We favour single exam boards for each subject.
