Hazel Grove Primary Gone Kwik Cricket Crazy

May 2, 2013 1:22 PM

Andrew Stunell MP presented Hazel Grove Primary with bags of Kwik Cricket Kit last week, before the start of the national Kwik Cricket Competition.

Last year, over 12,000 primary schools and 139,000 children took part in the competition, making Asda Kwik Cricket the largest national sports competition for children under eleven years of age.

Commenting, Andrew said -

"I was delighted to be asked to present Hazel Grove Primary with their Kwik Cricket sets and to see youngsters enthusiastically taking up one of our national sports. I'm sure they'll prove to be a lot more successful at it than I ever managed to be!"

The Asda Kwik Cricket Competition was set up by Asda to encourage healthy and active lifestyles. It is being played in schools and at a series of local and county level events throughout May, June and July, before finishing with the national finals. At each event, Asda stores and Community Life Champions provide food and drink to participants to encourage a healthy diet and an active lifestyle.

Kwik Cricket can be played indoors or outdoors, meaning schools do not need specialised facilities in order to take part. The game is designed to give both boys and girls an introduction to the sport - allowing them to field, bat and bowl - and can involve anything from 2 to 32 players. A key part of the programme is to encourage more girls to get involved in the sport, and therefore the competition is split into both girls and mixed categories.
