High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP praised Stockport Council's decision to safeguard all its Sure Start Centres after recent visits to Centres in Hazel Grove and Offerton.
Andrew said - "These Centres do a first class job supporting Stockport mums & dads, and they are a credit to everyone who works in them. I'm delighted that their value has been recognised by the Council, who have made sure they are kept open to carry on their good work."
Andrew was shown round by Jenny Huggins who runs the Offerton, Hazel Grove and High Lane Sure Start Centres.
Commenting further, Andrew said - "It was a real treat to go round. Staff and council should be proud of what a good job the town's Sure Start Centres do."
Clare Morrall, Micklehurst Green resident (pictured), has been taking her son Jenson to Offerton Sure Start Centre for 2 years.
Commenting, Clare said -
"I've been going to the centre for roughly 2 years now, my son loves going and we've both made many new friends. I've attended lots of the adult learning courses which range from cake-making to stress-buster techniques. It's a great way for stay at home mums to gain qualifications, advice and support whilst your kids are being well looked after by the helpful staff, and having a great time in the crèche!"
Stockport Council is one of the few North West councils to have kept all their Sure Start Centres open this year, despite big budget cuts.
"That's a tribute to their foresight and commonsense, this shows what an impact the centres are making in helping both parents and children" says Andrew.
