Proposing Hazel to follow in Bob's footsteps as mayor of Eastwood Liberal Democrat Councillor Josie Forrest said
"It gives me pleasure to propose Cllr Hazel Charlesworth as Mayor for this coming year.
"Hazel has been the Deputy Mayor for the last 12 months which has helped ease her into the role of Mayor, a role I feel sure she will fulfil to the best of her ability.
"What to say about Hazel? Everyone likes Hazel, a very pleasant and 'sunny' disposition who strives to see the best in everyone, never holds a grudge and more importantly in her role as Councillor, nothing is ever too much trouble. Hazel is a worker. Happily married to Bob who is also a Councillor on this Council and has been for many years now. The pair of them are what could be described as part of the furniture!
"Hazel joined Eastwood Town Council in 2003 and during that time has put her community work as a high priority in her everyday life. Heavily involved in her pet project Broxtowe Women's Project known as BWP, also a stint for Age Concern Eastwood are just two of the community groups she is involved with. Each year at the Eastwood Arts Festival and the Eastwood Lights Switch on she is there either as a marshall, table stacker, flyer distributor you name it, Hazel will do it. She is reliable, and as I've mentioned earlier, not afraid of work and always willing to help.
"Hazel has been a lollipop lady for almost 20 years so is used to the friendly banter with the children and their parents. She has a warm and friendly approach so meeting new people is not a problem for her. She also works as a dinner lady.
I could add more but to draw to a close now I will propose that Cllr Hazel Charlesworth take on the role of Mayor of this council. Would someone like to second that?"
