Three Liberal Democrat Greater Manchester MPs have backed local newspaper week.

Andrew Stunell, Mark Hunter and John Leech showed their support for local newspapers in Parliament recently.

The three MPs are pictured outside Parliament reading our local newspaper, the Stockport Express.

Andrew Stunell MP said -

"The Stockport Express and the Times have a key part to play in keeping residents up to date on news across the town. Local Newspaper Week is a great chance to celebrate their long history of service to the community, and their support and celebration of good causes"

Local Newspaper Week is took place between May 13 and 19. This year it was based on the theme of press freedom and the important role that local newspapers play in underpinning local democracy.

John Leech MP said -

"Local newspapers are vital to the community, they not only report the news that matters but also play a part in holding the council and Government to account. Regularly buying a local paper will help our local press to remain robust and successful for years to come."

Mark Hunter MP said -

"Local newspapers have a vital function in making sure that residents across in our area are well informed about the issues that affect them. That is why I am backing Local Newspaper Week."
