High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP, Marple Civic Society's honorary Patron, welcomed Marple Civic Society to Westminster last week to help celebrate Civic Day 2013.
The Civic Day 2013 reception in Westminster was held to celebrate all the good work civic societies do in our communities all across the UK.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"Marple Civic Society is recognised nationally as an outstanding example of volunteers working hard to improve their local community. I'm proud of the work they do, together with other groups in Marple to raise its profile and improve its environment. So it was great to meet them down in Westminster, celebrate Civic Day 2013, and then treat them to a cup of tea on the terrace!"
Andrew was a leading Minister in the team that steered the Localism Act onto the statute book, which gives much greater clout to community groups like Marple Civic Society.
"Getting more decisions back down to grass roots level has been a high priority for the Coalition Government and I've often used Marple as an example of good practice" says Andrew.
Alan & Gillian Postill of Marple Civic Society, said -
"It was great to be invited to the Civic Day Reception and to 'fly the flag' for Marple at Westminster"
