High Peak Liberal DemocratsA Government grant of £500,000 to bring empty homes back into use in Stockport has been warmly welcomed by local MP Andrew Stunell.
"It was one of my top priorities as a Minister to get Britain's 600,000 empty homes back into use. I'm delighted that over 40,000 are now taken by families who desperately need them. This extra money will bring another score of empty homes back into use locally and provide more affordable accommodation for Stockport residents."
"I'm looking forward to my return visit to Stockport Homes to see the good work they are doing getting homes back into use. It really is a no-brainer to make good use of the homes already built, and I'm keen to see this programme do even more."
On 20th June the Department for Communities & Local Government announced the successful bidders who will bring around 3,200 properties back into use as affordable accommodation.
The Government has already cut the number of empty homes by over 40,000 since 2010. The Housing and Growth announcement on 6 September 2012 committed a further £75 million to bringing empty homes back into use, bringing this Government's total investment to £235 million.
