STUNELL WELCOMES CASH BOOST FOR STOCKPORT BUSINESSES
Andrew Stunell MP welcomes more than half a billion pounds that will be pumped into small businesses via the Regional Growth Fund, which was announced today.
Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, announced the fourth round of the Regional Growth Fund - half a billion pounds for 100 small businesses across the UK. This is on top of the £2,500 million already invested via the fund.
Government cash has previously gone to a number of Stockport-based businesses to create jobs, including MAN Diesel & Turbo in Hazel Grove, NXP Semiconductors UK Ltd in Hazel Grove, and Stockport Homes to create new homes, new jobs and more work for the construction industry.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"This is excellent news for our area, helping to create jobs for local people."
"The Regional Growth Fund is a key part of the Liberal Democrat commitment to building a stronger economy in a fairer society. For too long, previous Labour and Conservative governments relied on financial services in the City of London to earn our keep, and neglected our regional economy."
"This new investment in businesses in Stockport Means they can grow and employ more people."
Andrew recently launched a campaign challenging local businesses to take on 100 apprenticeships in 100 days, and is also working to support more companies to start exporting.
"The opportunities are there, and the Government is investing huge amounts of help for companies that are ready to expand."
