“HS2 – Have your say” says Stunell

July 24, 2013 11:19 AM

Local MP Andrew Stunell is encouraging Stockport to have its say on the route for High Speed Rail 2: Phase Two, planned to connect the West Midlands to Manchester and Leeds, with connections to the West and East Coast Main Lines to serve the rest of the North of England and Scotland.

Commenting, Andrew said -

"The line will provide vital extra capacity and help keep heavy freight traffic off the motorways. Our nearest stations are likely to be at the Airport and Piccadilly. But there is plenty of room for debate, and now is the time for local businesses and residents to have their say on the overall route, and the impact it could have on Stockport jobs and prosperity for years ahead."

The phase two consultation lasts 6 months starting last week. There's a series of public information events from mid-October 2013 to early January 2014 where people will be able to review local information and speak directly with HS2 Ltd staff about the proposals.

The consultation closes on 31st January 2014.

The Government has also launched an Exceptional Hardship Scheme (EHS) for property owners who will be put in exceptional hardship as a direct result of the HS2 Phase Two line of route.
