High Peak Liberal DemocratsBrian Paddick, joint President of LGBT+ Lib Dems and twice candidate for Mayor of London, is to be made a member of the House of Lords.
Following the announcement earlier today, Brian commented, "I am dedicated to the Liberal Democrat fight to give everyone the chance to succeed. I have always been non-conformist though, so I am not giving in to Peer pressure!"
Until his retirement in May 2007 Brian was Deputy Assistant Commissioner in London's Metropolitan Police Service and the most senior openly gay police officer in the country.
LGBT+ Lib Dems Chair Adrian Trett welcomed the news of Brian's peerage. "I am delighted we will now have two Out peers as our Co-Presidents of LGBT+ Lib Dems, giving us a strong voice in the House of Lords alongside the work of our Vice-Presidents Stephen Gilbert MP and Stephen Williams MP in the Commons."
The other Co-President of LGBT+ Lib Dems, Liz Barker, is already a Baroness - having been appointed to the Lords in 1999.
The list of new House of Lords appointments includes ten Lib Dems.
