LIB DEM TAX DEAL HELPS STOCKPORT RESIDENTS
Local MP Andrew Stunell has welcomed the news that over 100,000 Stockport residents have had their income tax bills cut.
"The lifting of the tax threshold is already really helping low-paid Stockport workers to the tune of £600 extra a year. By next April no-one will pay any income tax at all on the first £10,000 they earn."
The gap between rich and poor, called income inequality, is now lower than at any time during the 13 years of the last Labour Government (1997-2010).
Commenting, Andrew said -
"The last Labour Government left Britain's finances in a mess, pressed ahead with deregulating the banks, let bonuses rip, and left the gap between rich and poor far too wide. Thanks to the Liberal Democrats we have turned that round completely."
Every standard-rate tax payer in Stockport gets a £700 rise in take-home pay thanks to the Liberal Democrats' income tax cut, says Andrew.
"It is a clear win for local people, delivered by the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives were never going to cut tax for the low paid, and when Labour had the chance they pushed through the fiasco of the 10p tax rate instead. Even they admit they got that one wrong."
