Liberal Democrats in Derby have selected their candidates to fight the two Derby constituencies at the General Election.
Lucy Care
In Derby North, Lucy Care has been chosen to take on Labour's Chris Williamson in a re-match of the 2010 election. In 2010 Lucy slashed Labour's majority over the Lib Dems to just 2,258. She needs a tiny 2.5% swing to win this time.
Lucy was born in Derby and has lived here most of her life. She currently lives in Littleover with her husband Ian, who works at Rolls-Royce. She has three grown-up children. She is an engineer by profession. Lucy has a strong reputation for getting things done in Derby. She is an experienced former City and County Councillor.
Lucy says, "I'm delighted to have been selected to stand in Derby North again Despite my now considerable experience in politics, I continue to think of myself first and foremost as an engineer and mother. Since 2010 I have continued to campaign in Derby, working with other groups or initiating campaigns to help give people a voice. I offer people my energy, enthusiasm and commitment, to help build a fairer society with a strong economy and which cares for its environment in the long term."
Joe Naitta
In Derby South, popular local Councillor Joe Naitta has been selected to fight the seat currently held by Margaret Beckett. Joe has lived in Derby for over 40 years and has represented Blagreaves on the City Council since 2008. For two years Joe was the Councillor in charge of leisure in the City and was responsible for initiating the city's velodrome project.
Joe Naitta says, "I'm looking forward to fighting the General Election. Labour have neglected much of the constituency for many years. Locally and nationally Labour have nothing positive to say and no new ideas. Only the Lib Dems are working to make our economy stronger and our society fairer and I'm looking forward to taking our positive record out on the doorsteps of Derby South."
