High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP welcomed the latest job figures as 'great news'. More people in his Hazel Grove constituency have a job now than at this time last year, and at this time last month.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"These figures are great news. We have more jobs and more young people in apprenticeships than ever before. The take-up by Stockport companies of my 100 new apprentices in a 100 days challenge has been spectacular. They reached the target in just fifty days. It shows that business confidence is returning, and our local economy is picking up."
"We still have to remain focussed on creating jobs and growing the economy. Jobs are the key building block in creating a stronger economy and fairer society that allows everyone to get on in life. That is why Liberal Democrats are working hard to promote job creation and why I'm encouraging local firms to take on apprentices."
The number of unemployed claimants in Hazel Grove constituency in August 2013 was 1,247, a rate of 3.2%, one of the best in Greater Manchester.
The number of local claimants is 33 lower than in August 2012 and 17 lower than in July 2013, according to the Office of National Statistics.
