Official opening 1On Saturday 21st September the Chairman of the Leicestershire County Council Rosetta Page and Chairman of North West Leics District Council, and local MP Andrew Bridgen officially opened the new Jubilee Community Allotment Site off Bradgate Drive in Greenhill. The Chairman of the District Geraint Jones and Rosetta Page along with 7 year old Zara Windram also planted an apple tree in the Community Orchard.

Liberal Democrat County Councillor Michael Wyatt, Chairman of the Broom Leys Community Allotment Society said, "It was great to see the site finally officially opened by both Chairman's of the two local authorities, who have given us financial support to make our dreams of a Community facility come to fruition. It's been a lot of hard work but it's clearly been worth all the effort by everyone who's given their support to this community project, which includes a community orchard.

The new allotment site not only provides over 40 plots for local people to grow their own produce but also much needed space for a new community bee hive facility to help the local bee population, and an opportunity to produce our very own local honey. I am sure this project will go from strength to strength due to the dedication of the local members who are so eager to make this project a success."

If anyone would like to hire a plot then contact Cllr Michael Wyatt on 07773 341531.
