High Peak Liberal DemocratsAgainst this backcloth I was asked recently by members, what should our message be on the doorstep? What should we be saying to voters to underline the importance of staying in Europe and that we, The Liberal Democrats are the only pro European Party who will champion our place at the heart of the European family? My opinion, the message we have to push, what I am telling voters right now and at every opportunity......
Vote to protect the future of your jobs
Vote to protect the future security of your family
Vote yes to remaining in Europe
Vote for the Liberal Democrats
We can point to the fact that approximately 3.5 million jobs depend on Europe. Millions of families directly or indirectly depend on these jobs for their income, their security, their homes and their future. Don't put all of this at risk by sleepwalking out of the European Union. The result of exiting would, I feel, be extremely serious and that's not just my view .
It was reported LONDON, Oct 14 (Reuters) that Eight out of 10 British manufacturers would choose to stay in the European Union if a referendum on membership of the 28-nation bloc were held 'today', a survey found.
Furthermore I understand from details in the same published reports that EEF Chief Executive Terry Scuoler said the results suggested manufacturers wanted to stay in a reformed EU and feared the economic fallout of leaving.
The report continued, "Britain must not gamble on its future in Europe. The stakes are enormous, I understand the same report added " he said. "It is naive to think we can pull up the drawbridge and carry on as normal. Billions of pounds of trading opportunities are at stake."
For me this is the message we have to push home, time, time and time again. It is up to the Liberal Democrats to safeguard the future of families and jobs. It is up to the Liberal Democrats to fight to secure our place at the heart of Europe, to change what needs to be changed and to champion what needs to be championed. If we don't, who will?
