High Peak Liberal DemocratsThe Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has announced the results of their Community Animal Welfare Footprint Awards (CAWF) and the work of one of the teams within the local authority have been recognised.
The CAWFs highlight those organisations that go above and beyond basic requirements to ensure higher welfare standards for animals in the services they provide. The award is not only an opportunity to say thank you to these service providers but also to share best practice amongst their colleagues from other regions.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council has been awarded a Gold Standard CAWF (the highest level available) for their work with local stray dogs; educating tenants about responsible pet ownership and the benefits of microchipping and neutering.
On hearing the news local MP, Mark Hunter, gave his reaction:
"I am absolutely delighted to hear that Stockport Council has achieved a Gold Award in stray dog services from the RSPCA. This award is a great achievement and everyone involved should be proud of their hard work to improve animal welfare in our area."
