High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP's Apprenticeship Campaign - 100 Apprentices in 100 days - has drawn to a close, delivering over 200 apprenticeships for young people in Stockport.
Andrew Stunell MP's joint campaign with Stockport Council, the National Apprenticeship Service and Stockport Express smashed all expectations by securing over double the amount of apprenticeships it set out to achieve.
Commenting, Andrew said - "It's a brilliant result. My thanks goes to all the Stockport companies who have made it possible. They will be getting first class motivated young people who I know will do them proud."
Marking the end of the campaign Andrew and Lisa attended Hughes Safety Showers in Bredbury to meet and see their apprentice, Ben Oldham, in action on the factory floor.
Lisa Smart, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Hazel Grove said -
"It was a great way to mark an extremely successful campaign. You could tell Ben enjoys what he does and is motivated to continue learning and making the most of his opportunity at Hughes Safety Showers."
"This is what the campaign has been all about - opening that first door. Thanks to our local businesses over 200 more young people will be able to benefit from the same experience."
John Myers, Head of Apprenticeships at the National Apprenticeship Service in Greater Manchester said -
"The Stockport 100 in 100 campaign has been highly successful, I would like to thank all of the employers who have decided to recruit an apprentice during the campaign and wish all of the apprentices starting their Apprenticeship the best of luck as they embark on a new career."
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council's Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement said -
"It is really positive news that over 200 young people in Stockport have this opportunity to work as apprentices. I hope that this will lead to permanent positions for these young people."
Throughout the campaign Andrew has visited many businesses to see their apprentices in action and has encouraged businesses to take on apprentices as much as he can at various events he's attended.
To name a few, Andrew visited Aldi who have recruited 14 Stockport apprentices, Kids Allowed with Dr Vince Cable who have recruited 8 Stockport apprentices, he spoke to pupils at Harrytown and Werneth School about the apprenticeship opportunities available to them with Gordon Birtwistle, Government Ambassador of Apprenticeships, and he visited Little Treasures Nursery in Romiley with Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, to congratulate them on taking on a Stockport apprentice.
