Today, November 20th, is the 16th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Liberal Democrat Equalities Minister Jo Swinson MP said, "Transgender day of remembrance is a day to reflect on the disproportionate levels of violence suffered by transgender people around the world.
"Our thoughts today are with the transgender community and those who mourn the loss of loved ones."
Cllr Sarah Brown, chair of the LGBT+ Lib Dems Trans Working Group, added, "The picture painted by the sheer number of deaths of trans people worldwide is a bleak one indeed, and this only reflects the picture in countries where these are reported.
"It is the responsibility of politicians of all parties and in all countries to work towards ending violence against trans people."
The Trans Respect Monitoring Project released figures last week noting that at least 238 trans people have been murdered across the world in the past 12 months.
