Leicester City Liberal Democrat Chairman Parmjit Singh Gill warmly welcomed European Spokesperson Phil Knowles to their Constituency AGM on Friday evening and took the opportunity to pledge £250 on behalf of the Constituency to the 'East Midlands European Fighting Fund'.
Parmjit said ''We appreciate the importance of a good result in 2014 and wanted to pledge our support to our European Team. Members here in Leicester City were keen to hear about the campaign, the plans and what we can do to help, We were delighted to have Phil with us, to hear directly from him as one of the European Team. We also greatly appreciated having the opportunity for a European Q&A''Phil thanked the meeting for their warm welcome, generous donation and support and then outlined the key messages for Europe 2014. It was clear that Leicester City Party Members will be taking every opportunity to deliver them.
Phil then underlined the importance of staying at the heart of the European Union and to be at the centre of decision making rather than in a position of isolation.
He repeated: "The message In Europe? In Work? - we have to ensure that the community really do take on board that 3.5 million jobs are potentially at risk if we sleepwalk out of Europe. We appreciate that some things need to change but the only way we can influence this is if we are at the table, not on the outside looking in. The Leicester City Members are intending to take the campaign on to the streets and I have promised that I will be with them."
