Liberal Democrats from across the region turned out to support Saturday's Birstall Action Day and Social event in Charnwood, including East Midlands European Spokesperson Phil Knowles.

Speaking after the Social gathering Phil Knowles congratulated Charnwood local party on the event and particularly Simon Sansome who has been selected to stand in the upcoming Birstall By Election, expected early in the new year.

Phil said

''Simon is an outstanding local campaigner with a strong track record, drive and determination to work hard for the community. I have promised that as soon as the election is called I will be back in Birstall to help with the campaign and I will be encouraging Liberal Democrats from across the region to do the same''

Phil Knowles also took the opportunity to call on local members to take every opportunity push home the message of In Work? In Europe? Phil also underlined the importance of staying at the heart of the European Union to protect 3.5 million jobs and to move on to the next level where we would target more investment into the UK to enhance job prospects and help grow the economy.

Regional Executive Member Mags Knowles also attended the Birstall Social Event to add her support to the day.
