Issan Ghazni congratulated Jonathan Sneade, a passionate supporter of the EU, on his election as the local party chair and was delighted to meet local activists.
Afterwards Issan Ghazni said: "It is in Britain's best interests to be at the heart of Europe, which is why it's so important to be at the decision-making table not outside the door.
"Bill Newton-Dunn is fighting for us in Europe and it is so important that we pull out all the stops to get him re-elected.
"Our campaign slogan - In Europe, In Work - perfectly sums up what this campaign is all about. If the Eurosceptics had their way our region would suffer because so much regional trade depends on Europe.
"This is a fight for local jobs so we must be bold and make the case on the doorsteps."
Tony Rogers, the East Midlands Regional Chair, who was also present, spoke to members about the importance of campaign preparation, telephone canvassing and of raising funds for the campaign.
Vice-chair designate of the East Midlands region, Barbara Pearce, spoke to members about recruiting and the contribution they could make to the overall development of the local party.
